TIFFIN, Ohio - The Wayne State University volleyball team (4-4, 2-2 GLIAC) defeated Tiffin University (5-4, 3-2 GLIAC) in three sets on Saturday night.
Wayne State won in straight sets primarily behind the play of Maureen MacDonald (White Lake, Mich./Marian) who narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs.
The Warriors posted a .337 hitting percentage, compared to the Dragons' .177 mark. Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) led all players with 14 kills, while Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) had eight kills and a match-best .538 hitting percentage.
After Wayne State won the first set, 25-15, neither side led by more than two points until WSU took a 23-20 advantage in the second set before closing it out 25-22.
Down 4-3 in the third, the Warriors went on a 13-3 run on their way to a 25-19 victory and the sweep.
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) posted 41 assists, and Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) led WSU with 13 digs.
Wayne State will take on Ohio Dominican at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
