COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Wayne State University volleyball team (5-4, 3-2 GLIAC) came away from its Sunday afternoon match at Ohio Dominican University (1-5, 0-5 GLIAC) with a
3-0 victory.
After posting a season-best .337 hitting percentage in Saturday's three-set win at Tiffin, the Warriors followed up with a .306 mark on Sunday in their fourth shutout win of the season.
Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) finished with 13 kills, three service aces, five blocks and five digs. She also hit .409 for the match.
Maureen MacDonald (White Lake, Mich./Marian) totaled 11 kills and eight digs, and
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) compiled nine kills with eight digs.
Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) also contributed at the net with six kills, four blocks and a .545 hitting percentage.
Wayne State never trailed in the opening set, a 25-15 victory. Sak and MacDonald combined for 11 of WSU's 18 kills, and
Katy Westenberg (Milford, Mich.) led the defensive effort with seven digs.
In the second set, the Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 advantage and led by as many as nine points until the Panthers battled back to tie it at 15-15. Wayne State closed out the set by winning 10 of the next 14 points.
Kent collected five kills and three digs in the decisive third set, a 25-17 result.
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) and Westenberg finished with 15 and 14 digs, respectively.
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) posted 41 assists for the second straight day and had a pair of service aces.
Wayne State has three home matches next weekend - Friday at 7:00 against Saginaw Valley State, Saturday at 4:00 against Ferris State, and Sunday at 2:00 versus Grand Valley State.
