AURORA, Ill. - Avenging its season-opening loss to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Wayne State University volleyball team (8-10) earned a
3-2 victory over UMSL (12-8) on Friday afternoon at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover.
Down two sets to one, Wayne State forced a fifth set with a 25-16 win, and took the match with a 16-14 result in the fifth. The Warriors have gone to five sets in their last four matches, winning the last two.
Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) finished with a double-double, her eighth of the season. She totaled a career-high 23 kills along with 12 digs and four service aces. Wayne State had 13 aces in total, including four by
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) who also had 17 kills and nine digs.
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale), who posted a season-high 56 assists, hit .615 with eight kills and six digs.
Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) contributed a team-best six blocks as well as 12 kills.
Wayne State is one of four teams in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover with a 2-0 record, along with Hillsdale, Missouri S&T, and Northern Kentucky. Overall, however, the GLVC has a slight lead, 13-11, over the GLIAC.
The Warriors will wrap up their participation in the Crossover tomorrow against Wisconsin-Parkside at 2:00 p.m. ET.
