DETROIT - The Wayne State University volleyball team (6-10, 5-6 GLIAC) suffered its second
3-2 loss of the weekend, as Lake Superior State University (5-10, 3-7 GLIAC) defeated the Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei.
The Lakers, who had lost seven of their last eight conference matches entering Saturday, snapped a four-match losing streak against the Warriors. Wayne State, meanwhile, has lost six of its last seven matches.
Kristen Bulkiewicz's (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) seventh double-double of the season included 18 kills and 12 digs. She also had five blocks.
Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) collected a team-best seven blocks to go with seven kills.
Candice Ottey (Ajax, Ont.) finished with 10 kills and three blocks, and
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) racked up 38 assists with four kills, four digs, two blocks and two aces.
The Warriors and Lakers exchanged set victories through the match, as LSSU struck first with a 25-19 win. Wayne State answered with a 25-20 triumph before a 25-21 result in the third gave the Lakers a 2-1 overall lead.
Leading for most of the fourth set, a 25-14 victory for the Warriors in the fourth seemed to provide some momentum, but the Lakers led for the duration of the fifth and deciding set.
Wayne State will participate in the fourth annual GLIAC/GLVC Crossover next weekend in Aurora, Ill. The schedule for the Crossover will be determined Monday afternoon.
