Double-doubles for Bulkiewicz and Kent

HOUGHTON - The Wayne State volleyball team (14-13, 10-9 GLIAC) closed the regular season with a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) at Michigan Tech (2-24, 0-18 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon, and secured its fourth straight berth in the GLIAC Tournament.

By virtue of their wins over Northern Michigan and MTU this weekend, as well as Findlay's loss to the Wildcats on Saturday, the Warriors clinched third place in the South Division and the No. 8 seed for next week's tournament.  Wayne State will travel to top-seeded Ferris State on Thursday.

Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) and Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./North) each finished with their second double-double of the weekend.  Bulkiewicz, who has 14 double-doubles this season and six in the last seven matches, totaled 16 kills and 10 digs.  Kent had 10 kills and 12 digs.

Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) hit .409 with 12 kills, and Candice Ottey (Ajax, Ont.) chipped in seven kills with a .316 hitting percentage.

With 42 assists Saturday, Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) became the third WSU player in history to eclipse the 3,000-assist mark, as her three-year total reached 3,028 assists.

Michigan Tech's losing streak reached 22 matches.  Jena Karkos led the Huskies with 11 kills.

The Warriors have qualified for the GLIAC Tournament all four years of head coach Phil Nickel's tenure.
