Warriors End Regular Season With 9-0 Triumph

WSU bests fourth straight Division I opponent

The Wayne State University women's tennis team (15-7) closed its regular season schedule with a 9-0 victory over Valparaiso University (0-15) on Sunday afternoon.

It was the Warriors fourth straight triumph over a Division I opponent and fifth of the 2010-11 campaign.

The Warriors swept the three doubles contests and achieved wins in four of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont.) and Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ont.) were 8-1 winners over Stephanie York and Jackie O'Reilly at No. 1 doubles.

In No. 2 doubles, McCall Monte (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) and Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia) added an 8-2 victory over Katie Bilyeuvand Kristin Zakiewicz, while Jennifer Bradford and Debora Correa served up an 8-0 triumph over Brittany O'Reilly and Aubrey Zdanovec at No. 3 doubles.

Gill and Goranskaya both earned 6-0, 6-0 victories in No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles.

Monte scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Zdanovec in the No. 4 spot, while Correa defeated Zakiewicz, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 5 singles.

Vuksanovic won a three-set tiebreaker over Bilyeu, in No. 3 singles. Bradford came back from losing the first set to best York at No. 6 singles, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 12-10.
