Warriors earn 3-0 victory on Homecoming

DETROIT - Adding to the Homecoming success already attained by the Wayne State football team, the volleyball squad (3-4, 2-1 GLIAC) followed suit with a victory in its 2011 home opener, defeating Ohio Dominican (6-3, 1-3 GLIAC) in three sets Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei.

The Warriors swept the match by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-22.

Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) led the attack with 17 kills, while Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) nearly had a double-double with nine kills and 13 digs.  Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) finished with 35 assists and passed
Laura Hayes (1986-87) for fifth-most all-time at WSU.

The Warriors led the first set for the duration, but the second was much closer with six ties and no more than four points of separation.

In the third, Wayne State led 17-11 before a six-point run by the Panthers tied it at 17-17.  The Warriors quickly regained the lead and put the match away with a 25-22 triumph.

Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) led all players with 21 digs, and Jessica DeLeeuw (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) contributed eight digs with three of WSU's nine service aces.

Wayne State will host Tiffin at 2:00 on Sunday at the Matthaei.
