BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Wayne State University volleyball team (5-6, 4-3 GLIAC) wrapped up its weekend road tripleheader with a
3-0 loss to Ferris State University (11-1, 7-1 GLIAC) on Sunday afternoon at Ewigleben Arena.
Wayne State put up a fight but was unable to stop FSU's six-match winning streak. The Bulldogs swept the match by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 29-27, handing the Warriors just their second shutout loss of the year.
Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) posted her third consecutive double-double, totaling 13 kills and 11 digs along with four blocks.
Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) hit .312 with eight kills and three blocks, while
Jen Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) chipped in six kills and a team-best five blocks.
Facilitating the offense was
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) who finished with 33 assists, eight digs and four kills.
This match featured 35 tie scores and 16 lead changes. Up 20-19 late in the first, Wayne State surrendered six of the next eight points to go down a set.
Much like the first set, the second stayed within three points until the Bulldogs took a 24-20 lead. A 25-21 result put FSU ahead 2-0.
The Warriors led for much of the third before things tightened up late in the set. Each team withstood two set points before Ferris State put the match away.
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) and Lisa Tobiczyk tied for match-high honors with 19 digs apiece.
Wayne State will face Hillsdale on the road Friday before hosting Findlay on Saturday.
