Ashland, Ohio - Following its
8-1 win at Ashland University on Sunday, the Wayne State University women's tennis team has started 3-0 for a third consecutive year.
Senior
Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ontario) bested Victoria Goudy at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
She teamed with freshman
Daniela Garcia-Diaz (Valle, Colombia) at one doubles and defeated Goudy and Cooper, 9-8 (7-4).
Garcia-Diaz came away with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at two singles over Erika Sullivan. Redshirt sophomore
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich.) won her six singles match over Sally Trout, 5-7, 6-0 (10-7).
Joseph paired with
Haleigh McPeek (Lake Forest, Ill.) at No. 3 doubles as they triumphed over Trout and Kira Kotova, 8-5.
Freshman
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) picked up a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Cooper at three singles.
Moore and fellow freshman
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que.) defeated Sullivan and Zdenka Pozo at two doubles, 8-4. Briand bested Pozo at four singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Redshirt sophomore
Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich.) fell in her No. 5 singles match with Kotova, 6-0, 7-5.
The Warriors continue their road ways at Ferris State on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. and Grand Valley State on Sept. 11 at 11 a.m..
