Volleyball Defeats Southern Indiana In Four Sets

Kent posts her second double-double of the day


AURORA, Ill. - The Wayne State University volleyball team (13-6) snapped a three-match losing skid with a 3-1 victory over the University of Southern Indiana (10-10) on Friday evening at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover.

Meeting for the third straight year in the Crossover, the Warriors won by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 20-25, and 25-18 to end USI's three-match winning streak.

Wayne State totaled a season-high 66 kills, led by Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) who hit .378 with 21 kills and six blocks.  Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) hit .343 with 18 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the day and eighth of the season.

Candice Ottey (Ajax, Ont.) finished with 10 kills, and Kelsey Bonewits (Griffith, Ind.) had seven with five blocks.  Essence Jackson-Jones (Muskegon, Mich.) totaled eight kills and four blocks, and Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) paced the offense with 52 assists while contributing nine digs and four blocks.

Already with a one-set lead, the Warriors broke an 18-18 tie in the second by ending the set on a 7-1 run.

The Screaming Eagles led for the duration of the third, but behind seven kills from Kent the Warriors were able to put the match away in the fourth set.

Wayne State will face No. 9 Indianapolis on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
