AURORA, Ill. - In its final match at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover, the Wayne State University volleyball team (13-7) dropped a
three-set decision (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) to the ninth-ranked University of Indianapolis (19-3) on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors hit .253 in the match and .262 over the three Crossover matches. The Greyhounds had a .350 team hitting percentage on Saturday, however, and out-blocked the Warriors, 12-4.
Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) had a .417 hitting percentage with 13 kills.
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) chipped in 11 kills and six digs. The two tied for the team lead with 45 kills on the weekend.
Candice Ottey (Ajax, Ont.) totaled six kills and two blocks, and
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) finished with 34 assists.
Down two sets and trailing in the third, 21-14, Wayne State came out of a timeout and pulled to within three at 23-20 before UIndy snatched the final two points. The Warriors finished the Crossover with a 1-2 record, while the Greyhounds won two of their three matches.
Wayne State will host Grand Valley State and Ferris State next weekend at the Matthaei as part of Homecoming.
