DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball squad (13-8 overall, 7-3 GLIAC) suffered its third consecutive conference setback Friday evening falling 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-14) to the visiting Grand Valley State Lakers (17-4 overall, 7-3 GLIAC) at the Matthaei.

In the first set, GVSU snapped a 1-1 tie with four consecutive points.  After WSU pulled within three at 8-5, the Lakers garnered seven of the next nine points for a 15-7 advantage.  Later in the set, the Warriors went on a 10-5 run to make it a 23-21 contest, but Grand Valley tallied the last two points for a 25-21 win.

The second set was a see-saw affair with 10 lead changes and 14 ties (including 18 through 24 inclusive), with Wayne State setting an evening best with 16 kills.

Grand Valley hit .364 in the final set and led 7-1 after the first eight points.  A 6-3 Warrior run midway through set pulled the hosts within four at 12-8, but the Lakers closed the match on a 13-6 run.

Junior Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont. / Sandwich) led the Warriors with 14 kills.

Betsy Ronda and Abby Aiken each had 10 kills for GVSU.

Wayne State will be back at the Matthaei tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 20) for a 4 p.m. match against 26th-ranked Ferris State.
