Tiffin, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's volleyball team (15-9 overall, 9-4 GLIAC) recorded its second consecutive road victory with a 3-0 triumph Saturday afternoon at Tiffin (8-16 overall, 1-12 GLIAC).
The Warriors earned set wins of 25-7, 25-21 and 25-19 to keep its one-match lead over Ashland for the top spot in the GLIAC South Division.
WSU scored the first four points of the match, and led by for than three at every juncture but 5-2.
The second set was tied at both one and two, before the Dragons tallied six straight points for a 8-2 advantage. The Warriors battled back to knot the set at 13. Tiffin had a five-point run to turn a 17-14 deficit into a 19-17 lead. Wayne State answered with an 8-2 run to win the set.
The third set was tied four times in the first 10 points, before WSU had a 4-1 spurt to go ahead 9-6. After the Dragons cut the Warrior lead to 10-9, Wayne State garnered seven of the next eight points for a 17-10 advantage. Tiffin won five of the next six points to make it a three-point game at 18-15. WSU closed out the match on a 7-4 run.
Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont. / Sandwich) had a match-high 11 kills, while
Essence Jackson-Jones (Muskegon, Mich.) had a .583 attack percentage with nine kills and two errors in 12 attempts.
Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich. / Yale) totaled 33 assists with
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) and
Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) recording 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Wayne State will conclude its three-match road trip with a Tuesday match at Findlay.
