Women's Tennis Team Sinks Lake State

Box Score

Detroit, Mich. - The Wayne State women's tennis team (8-1, 8-1 GLIAC) battled the cold temperatures to down the Lakers of Lake Superior State (8-6, 4-5 GLIAC) 9-0 on Friday afternoon at the WSU Tennis Courts. It was the Warriors seventh victory in a row and third in a row at home. Coach Sheila Snyder mentioned that things would be tough today with the cool temperature but her young squad handled things beautifully.

The Warriors came out firing as they swept the doubles play with commanding wins all around. The top doubles team of Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) won their sixth straight match as a team 8-3. Combine those victories with their finals appearance at the ITA Regionals two weeks ago and these two have become the talk of the GLIAC.

The lone close match came at #3 singles between Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and Sarah Awe with Poissant battling back to win 0-6, 6-3, 10-5. The freshman feel behind early 0-6 but fought her way back to send this flight to a tie breaker which she ran away with giving Wayne State the sweep.

The Warriors will due battle with Saginaw Valley State tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with that match being moved indoors due to weather issues.
