Women's Tennis Earns Place in WSU History Books

Warriors notch wins number 21 and 22 to establish new program record in dominant fashion


CANTON, Ohio -- The Wayne State women's tennis team (22-3 overall) played in their two final matches of the regular season and posted 9-0 victories over Malone and Walsh in two Friday matches, establishing a new high in wins for the program.

The Warriors, ranked 30th in the nation, were impressive against the two future GLIAC opponents. The Warriors started the day at Malone (7-9) with a 9-0 win, WSU's 21st, establishing a program record. Freshmen Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Quebec/École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) and redshirt-sophomore Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich.) posted clean 6-0, 6-0 marks at singles for the Warriors.

At doubles against the Pioneers, senior Kristina Goranskaya and freshman Daniela Garcia-Diaz posted an 8-1 victory at the top flight.

In the night cap, the Warriors blanked the Cavaliers (9-5) 9-0 for the 22nd win of the season. The duo of Goranskaya and Garcia-Diaz as well as Joseph and Jessica Kruczek recorded 8-1 doubles wins.

At singles, Moore posted a 6-1, 6-3 mark and Joseph won 6-2, 6-2.
