Hillsdale, Mi -- The Wayne State women's tennis team (2-1, 2-1 GLIAC) stumbled out of the gates Friday afternoon against GLIAC foe Hillsdale (0-3, 0-3 GLIAC). The Warriors dropped two of the first three doubles matches, taking home their single point at #3 doubles. Coach Sheila Synder recognized the slow start but liked the way her team bounced back, "They are really tough in doubles and we came out slow, I thought we regained our aggressiveness in singles however and fought hard for every point."
The Warrior ladies regrouped and swept the singles matches on their way to a 7-2 league win over the Chargers.
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and
Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) played great all day teaming up to take the lone doubles match 8-1 as well as their respective singles bouts as well.
Kruczek was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at #5 singles while Joseph took home a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the #6 slot. The Redshirt Juniors came up large in the first road match of the year for the youthful Warriors.
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) took home straight set wins in the three and four spots for Wayne State, (6-2, 6-2) and (6-4, 6-0) respectively.
The ladies will turn it back on Saturday at 10:00 am, Findlay travels to the WSU Tennis Courts as the Warriors look to pick up another GLIAC victory.
