Ashland, Ohio -- The Wayne State women's tennis team (7-1, 7-1 GLIAC) continued their dominance of Ohio with an 8-1 victory over Ashland (7-1, 7-1 GLIAC) on Sunday after rolling through Tiffin and Ohio Dominican earlier this weekend.
The Warriors got things going by sweeping doubles play to grab a quick 3-0 lead. The #3 doubles team of
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and
Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) had the lone close match as it took an 8-6 triumph to earn the final doubles point.
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) were unbeatable all weekend and Sunday was no different. The duo was overwhelming again Sunday as they were both 6-1, 6-0 winners at #3 and #4 singles, respectively.
The Warrior ladies have won their last six matches and have established themselves as a serious contenders in the GLIAC. Lake Superior State comes to Detroit on Friday before the Warriors host Saginaw Valley State (Saturday) and Michigan Tech (Sunday) to close out the weekend.
