Warriors Fall In Four Sets To No. 8 Greyhounds

Wayne State finishes 3-1 at Findlay Fall Classic


FINDLAY, Ohio - The Wayne State University volleyball team (5-3) wrapped up its weekend at the Findlay Fall Classic with a 3-1 setback against the eighth-ranked University of Indianapolis (5-2) on Saturday afternoon at Croy Gymnasium.

After splitting the first two sets (17-25, 25-19), the Greyhounds took the next two sets (14-25, 23-25) to snap the Warriors' three-match winning streak.

Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) and Cydney Biessel (Ruby, Mich./Yale) finished with double-doubles, as Kent totaled 13 kills and a team-high 21 digs, while Biessel contributed 42 assists and 10 digs.

Essence Jackson-Jones (Muskegon, Mich.) was productive up front, hitting .471 with nine kills and eight blocks.

The Greyhounds opened up a 10-1 lead in the opening set on their way to a 25-17 result.  In the second, Wayne State erased a 15-9 deficit and ended the set with a 16-4 run.

A 9-6 lead in the third set for Wayne State disappeared as Indianapolis took 19 of the final 24 points.

The fourth set had 13 ties and three lead changes, as Wayne State fended off match point three times before Indy put it away, 25-23.

Candice Ottey (Ajax, Ont.) chipped in offensively with 11 kills.  Lindsey Graciak (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) finished with 14 digs.

Indy's Kristina Kerrigan led all players with 18 kills as part of a double-double with 14 digs.

Wayne State will begin GLIAC play with its first of five consecutive home matches Friday night at 7:00 against Lake Erie.
