Box Score

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (8-11, 5-6) dropped its fourth straight match on Saturday afternoon at #22 Ferris State (15-4, 10-1) by a score of 3-2. The Warriors fell in the first set 25-13, won set two 25-20 but lost the third set 25-17. WSU forced a fifth-set tiebreaker with a dominating 25-12 set four victory. The Bulldogs took the final set 15-12 to win the match.

The opening set was tied at 4-4 before FSU went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage. That deficit would be too great for the Warriors to overcome and the Bulldogs would cruise in set one, 25-13.

The Green & Gold trailed 10-8 after a Ferris State attack error to begin set number two. Kelsey Bonewits (Griffith, Ind.) brought the Warriors within one at 11-10 with a kill. A FSU attack error tied the set at 15-15. The Warriors went on runs of 4-0 and 3-0 to take the set, 25-20. The set ended on a kill from Kristen Bulkiewicz (LaSalle, Ont. / Sandwich).

Essence Jacskon-Jones (Muskegon, Mich) connected on a kill to bring FSU's lead to 5-4 to open the third set. The Warriors would pull within a point at 12-11 on a kill from Heather Weiss (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron). That would be as close as WSU would come and FSU pulled away for the 25-17 victory.

The fourth set was never in doubt as the Warriors won 25-12 to force the tiebreaker. In the win, Wayne State went on a run of 8-1 to finish the set. A kill from Weiss gave the Warriors the win.

In the race to 15, FSU and WSU were tied at 3-3 before the Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-4 lead. WSU's comeback attempt fell short as the Warriors cut the deficit to 14-12 before the FSU closed out the match with a 15-12 win.

Bulkiewicz collected her 30th career double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs Candice Ottey (Ajax, Ont.) also collected 10 kills while Madison Reeves (Indianapolis, Ind. / Avon) handed out 31 assists. WSU hit .172 while FSU hit .300.

Wayne State and the rest of the GLIAC will compete in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover next weekend. The Warriors will play three matches against GLVC opponents, which will be announced on Monday.
