MIDLAND, Mich.
-- The Wayne State University women's tennis team fell in a pivotal, early-season matchup Wednesday, dropping a 6-3 match at Northwood University.

The Warriors fall to 2-1 overall (2-1 GLIAC). The Timberwolves (4-0, 4-0 GLIAC) are annually one of the top teams in the league and have won the last two GLIAC regular season titles.

WSU trailed 2-1 after the doubles matches. The Wayne State pair of junior Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and junior Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) pulled out the lone victory at No. 1 doubles, taking an 8-6 match after trailing 4-0.

Sophomore Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) and Briand earned the victories in singles for the Warriors.

Kamenko earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, while Briand was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles.

Wayne State continues its four-match road trip on Friday, traveling to Ferris State University for a 2 p.m. start.
