DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's tennis team won its 11th straight match Tuesday afternoon, beating Hilsdale College 8-1 indoors at the Multipurpose Indoor Facility.
The Warriors (11-0 overall and GLIAC) took a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
The WSU senior pair of
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / Ecole Secondaire Felix-Leclerc) and
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) won at the top flight 8-2, while
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) were also victorious, winning at the second flight 8-1. Junior
Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) and freshman
Liz de Souza Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) claimed a victory at third flight 8-2.
At the top flight for singles, Moore earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory and Mitrache claimed a win at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-0. Briand posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth flight and Kamenko was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 5 singles.
Ghellere claimed another point for the Warriors with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
The only point the Chargers obtained was at No. 3 singles.
Wayne State will have its last regular season match at home on Sunday against Saginaw Valley at 12 p.m.
