FINDLAY, Ohio – The Wayne State University women's team won its fourth straight match Saturday afternoon, beating Findlay University 8-1 indoors at Findlay, Ohio.
The Warriors (4-0, 4-0 GLIAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
The WSU senior pair of
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / Ecole Secondaire Felix-Leclerc) and Yasha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) won at the top flight 9-7, while junior
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) and junior
Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) were also victorious, winning at the third flight 8-2.
Only point Findlay was able to obtain was in the second set of doubles between
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and sophomore
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino).
Wayne State swept the singles flights, taking all of the matches in straight sets. At the top of the flight, Moore earned a 6-4, 6-0 win. Mitrache was 1-6 when her opponent retired at No. 2 singles and Poissant posted a 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 win at third flight.
Briand posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles, Kamenko was 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) won 6-1, 6-2 at the sixth flight.
Wayne State will be playing again Sunday at 10 AM against Tiffin in Tiffin, Ohio.
