NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (3-0 overall, 3-0 GLIAC) won its third consecutive match to start the 2014 season with an 8-1 victory at Walsh (1-1 overall, 1-1 GLIAC ) Sunday morning.
The Warriors had a 3-0 advantage after doubles play. Seniors
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / Ecole Secondaire Felix-Leclerc) tallied an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. The second flight pair of sophomore
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Height, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and junior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) went into a tie-breaker match winning it 9-8 (7-4).
Ashley Walker and
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Mitrache, at second singles, and Poissant at third both won 6-3, 6-3. Moore claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
Briand, at No. 4 singles, won 6-1, 6-2 while Kamenko won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
The only point Walsh received was at the sixth singles flight as Angle Alisha won in three sets (5-7, 6-2, 10-7) against sophomore
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield).
Wayne State will be on the road again next Saturday at Findlay with the match beginning at 11 AM.?
