Big Inning Powers Warriors Over Wildcats

WSU scored all of its runs in the seventh inning on Wednesday.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- A seven-run seventh inning propelled the Wayne State University baseball team (3-3) to a 7-0 win over Wayne State College (4-6) on Wednesday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park.

Alex Kinch (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) (1-0) tossed seven shutout innings and struck out nine while allowing just five hits to earn his 10th career victory.

The Warriors broke the scoreless tie with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning. Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) connected for a three-run home run while Bradley Baldwin (Troy, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic) drove in two runs with a double. Nathan Manis (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) and Aaron Loconsole (Macomb, Mich. / Marine City) each drove in a run during the rally.

JT Conti (Trenton, Mich.) and Christian Bilkovic (West Bloomfield, Mich.) each pitched a scoreless frame to keep the shutout intact.

Harms finished 3-for-5 while Loconsole, Sean Winkelseth (Ypsilanti, Mich.), Ryan Mergener (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Portage Central) and Cole Clifton (Sterling Heights. Mich. / De La Salle) all posted two hits apiece.

WSU will meet fourth-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato for a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 10:30 AM.
