LIMA, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (18-0, 12-0 GLIAC) stayed unbeaten on Friday at Northwestern Ohio (5-4) with a 6-3 win inside the Westwood Tennis Center.
The match was tied at 3-3 midway through the match before WSU was able to regain control and win its 18th consecutive match.
The Warriors took two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Seniors
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que.) were victorious at No. 1 doubles 8-2. Sophomore
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and junior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que.) fell at the second flight of doubles 8-2. The sophomore duo of
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) secured an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
Moore won at top flight singles 6-3, 6-3 while Mitrache dropped her match at No. 2 singles 6-0, 7-6.
Poissant also fell, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. Briand (6-3, 6-2) and junior Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont.) (6-1, 6-0) won at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. Hughes won at the sixth flight of singles 6-2, 6-1.
The Warriors will travel to Florida for their spring break trip, which begins on March 12 against Radford.
