DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (23-2) topped Indiana (Pa.) (9-4) 7-2 on Friday at the Multipurpose Indoor Facility.
The Warriors are ranked 27th in the latest ITA National Rankings while the Crimson Hawks are ranked 32nd. WSU is second in the Midwest region while IUP is second in the Atlnatic region.
WSU took all three doubles matches to begin the match. #18
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Anne Li Braind (Repentigny, Que.) won at No. 1 doubles 8-4.
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que.) and
Liz de Souza Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) were victorious at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. At No. 3 doubles,
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) won 8-0.
Moore (#49) lost at No. 1 doubles to #46 Tanya Timko 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Andrea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Poissant defeated her opponent at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5. At No. 4 singles, Braind improved her career record to 96-15 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont.) won 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 at the fourth flight of singles. IUP took the final singles match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 as Hughes fell.
WSU concludes the regular season against Aquinas on April 7.
