DETROIT –The Wayne State University women's tennis squad topped conference opponent Findlay, 9-0, Saturday morning. For the first time in the past 10 fall seasons, the Warriors (3-0, 3-0 GLIAC) recorded three consecutive 9-0 sweeps. WSU has won 26 consecutive regular-season GLIAC matches since a 6-3 setback to Northwood on Sept. 11, 2013, and 40 of its last 41 league matches.
DOUBLES • Each doubles team is undefeated in the first three matches of the 2015-16 season.
• Freshmen
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont. / Northview Heights S.S.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia / Moscow School 45) posted an 8-1 win over Findlay's Tijana Raicevic and Sheridan McLean at No. 1 doubles.
• Junior
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) were also victorious at the third flight defeating the Oilers' Anna Forman and Kymberlyn Warner, 8-1.
• Senior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and junior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) beat Matina Matic and Viktoriya Shkola 8-3 at the second doubles spot.
SINGLES• Mitrache came from behind to seal a victory in a third set super tiebreaker, 10-4. The junior won the first set, 6-2, and lost the second set, 5-7, at the top singles flight.
• Peisachovitz posted her third collegiate win, defeating Shkola at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, with sophomore
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) garnered a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the sixth flight.
• Senior co-captain
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) beat Forman, 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth singles position, while Kuznetsova won in two sets, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
• Poissant recorded her 53rd singles victory, topping Raicevic 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
UP NEXT• The Warriors will play league opponent Tiffin on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the WSU Tennis Courts. WSU defeated the Dragons, 5-4 last season.
