ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis program dropped its first match of the 2015-16 season, 7-2, to Grand Valley State on Friday afternoon. The Warriors' (4-1, 4-1 GLIAC) impressive conference winning streak came to end after 27 consecutive matches.
DOUBLES• Senior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and junior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) remain undefeated in conference play at No. 2 doubles after beating the Lakers' Madison Ballard and Alexa Sweeney, 8-2.
• Juniors
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) were defeated 8-4 by Abby Perkins and Livia Christman at the third doubles flight.
• Freshmen
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont. / Northview Heights S.S.) and Dash Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia / Moscow School 45) lost to Rachel Sumner and Aimee Moccia at the first doubles position.
SINGLES • Mitrache continued her winning streak at the first singles flight beating Perkins in a super tiebreaker, 10-3. The junior lost the first set, 4-6, and won the second, 7-5.
• Kuznetsova recorded her first loss at No. 4 singles to Christman, 3-6, 6-7 (3-7), while senior co-captain
Julia Kamenko lost to Sumner, 3-6, 2-6 in the fifth position.
• Peisachovitz was defeated by Moccia, 4-6, 1-6 at the third flight and Poissant dropped two sets to Sweeney, 1-6, 2-6 at No. 2 singles.
• Sophomore
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) was topped by Sam Schrepferman 4-6, 0-6 in the sixth singles position.
UP NEXT• WSU will compete against Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. on Satuday at 10 a.m. Wayne State defeated the Bulldogs, 9-0, last season.
