DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's tennis squad topped Division I opponent Valparaiso, 8-1, on Tuesday at the WSU Tennis Courts. The Warriors (6-1, 5-1 GLIAC) have won 13 of their last 16 non-conference matches dating back to the 2014 GLIAC Tournament.
DOUBLES- Freshman
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont. / Northview Heights S.S.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia / Moscow School 45) defeated Meg Modesto and Cary Milanes, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.
- Senior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) remain undefeated at the second flight after topping Kathleen Hebble and Paige Heuer, 8-4.
- Juniors
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) bested Halle Roach and Randi Wind, 8-6, at the third doubles position.
SINGLES - Mitrache swept Modesto, 6-0, 6-0, at the first singles flight to remain undefeated, while senior
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) beat Roach, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
- Freshman
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) collected her fifth career win after topping Wind, 6-3, 6-0, at the sixth position.
- Kuznetsova won 6-4, 6-3, over Milanes at No. 4 singles, while Peisachovitz defeated Heuer, 7-6(2), 6-3, at the third flight.
- Poissant lost to Hebble, 6-3, 6-4, at the second position.
UP NEXT- The Warriors will travel to Houghton, Mich. to play GLIAC opponent Michigan Tech this Saturday. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
