Volleyball Swept on Friday Night

WSU hosts #21 Ferris State on Saturday afternoon.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (17-4, 8-2 GLIAC) never found its rhythm on Friday night as Grand Valley State (12-8, 6-3 GLIAC) swept the Warriors in three sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Lakers jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set.  GVSU's lead grew to 10-4 and 19-11. The visitors controlled the rest of the set and won 25-16.

• Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) gave WSU a 6-3 lead with  kill.  The Warriors added to their lead after an Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) point.  The Lakers tied the game at 12-12.  However, Wayne State responded with a 5-1 run, capped by back-to-back kills from Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) and a service ace from Moore.  GVSU had a run of its own and stormed back to take a 21-20 lead and win the set 25-20.

• GVSU led the third set 9-5 and eventually 16-8.  The Warriors struggled down the stretch as the Lakers extended their lead to 21-12.  GVSU completed the sweep by winning the final set 25-16.
