MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (7-6 overall) defeated Michigan Tech (6-7 overall), 5-1, in the second round of the 2016 GLIAC Tournament being held at the Midland Tennis Center. The Warriors rebounded from a Friday quarterfinal setback to Grand Valley State.
DOUBLES RESULTS
- Junior
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and sophomore
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont.) notched an 8-5 triumph at first doubles.
- Seniors
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) earned a win at No. 3 doubles when MTU's third doubles tandem retired after trailing 3-0.
SINGLES RESULTS
Wayne State won the first three singles matches to be completed to earn the match victory.
- Ghellere was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at third singles, while freshman
Julia Walz (Rastatt, Germany) claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.
- Walker also won in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at the sixth singles flight.

- The Warriors will battle fifth-seeded Saginaw Valley State (8-5) in the fifth-place match of the conference tournament on Oct. 30 at 8:15 a.m. WSU suffered a 5-4 setback to the Cardinals on Oct. 15 in Detroit. This will be the final match of the fall season for Wayne State.
