DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (5-3, 5-3 GLIAC) recorded an 9-0 win over conference opponent, Lake Superior State (3-6, 2-6 GLIAC) on Sunday morning at the WSU Tennis Courts in Midtown Detroit. Sophomore
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont.) clinched the Warriors' victory in two sets (6-0, 6-0) over Laura Roberts at the second singles position.
"We got off to a good start by sweeping all three doubles," head coach
Sheila Snyder said. "We kept the momentum up from doubles and followed up with great singles play by all."
DOUBLES RESULTS
- Sophomore
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and Peisachovitz defeated Tara Harvey and Jenay Andrews, 8-1, at the first doubles flight, while senior
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) and sophomore
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) topped Allison Grandfield and Roberts, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
- Junior
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and freshman
Julia Walz (Rastatt, Germany) posted an 8-4 victory over Macarenca Bielsa and Laura Fernandez at the third doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS
- Walker bested Kirsten Malpass in two sets (6-0, 6-1) at the sixth singles position, while Ciellza recorded a win (6-0, 6-1) over Andrews at No. 5 singles.
- Ghellere beat Bielsa, 6-3, 6-1, at the third singles position, and Walz topped Fernandez (6-3, 6-1) at the fourth singles flight.
- Kuznetova posted a two-set victory (6-2, 6-3) over Harvey at No. 1 singles.
UP NEXT
- WSU will continue its seven-match home stand with a GLIAC showdown versus Northwood on Oct. 12. The match is slated for 2 p.m. at the WSU Tennis Courts.
