ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (3-1 overall) won both of its games on Saturday at the Lewis Dome Invitational being held at the Dome at the Ballpark. The Warriors pounded out 11 hits in a 10-2 victory over Lindenwood (2-11), then blanked tournament host Lewis 2-0 (2-2) in Saturday's nightcap.
GAME ONE RECAPWSU began the contest with a three-run top of the first. Redshirt junior
Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) led off the game with a walk and advanced to second as junior
Allie Buchanan (Cambridge, Ont. / Galt C.I.) laced a single through the left side. Senior
Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic) had an infield hit to load the bases, and senior
Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) hit into a fielder's choice scoring Butler. Freshman
Hannah McClounie (Essex, Ont. / St. Anne Catholic) plated Buchanan with a sacrifice fly, while sophmore
Shelby Fridline (Almont, Mich. / SC4) had a single up the middle scoring McGarr.
Sophomore
Hailey Lazarek (Allen Park, Mich.) had a one-out single in the fourth, and senior
Gabby Williams (South Lyon, Mich.) followed with a base hit up the middle. Butler's single through the left side scored Lazarek, with Williams coming across the plate on a single up the middle by Buchanan. A groundout by Spano made it 6-0.
The Lions scored both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Warriors answered with four runs in the top of the seventh. McClounie drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a single by sophomore
Kylee Barrett (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington). A fielder's choice left runners at the corners, with Lazarek's fielder's choice scoring McClounie. Another fielder's choice by freshman
Megan Guitar (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) scored classmate
Ashley Messina (Troy, Mich.). A single by senior
Shannon Hilton (Gilford, Ont. / Bradford) loaded the bases before freshman
Jamie MacNeil (Brampton, Ont. / St. Thomas Aquinas S.S.) delivered a two-run single.
IN THE CIRCLESenior
Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) went the distance to improve to 1-1 on the young season. She struck out three and did not walk a batter, while allowing two runs on four hits with three of the singles coming in the sixth. Boehler retired 15 of the first 16 Lion hitters.
Morgan Colvis (1-4) pitched the entire game for Lindenwood allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts to three walks.
LEADING THE WARRIORSBuchanan and McGarr each went 2-for-4 as nine different Warriors had hits in the game. Butler scored twice.
LEADING THE OPPOSITIONCaitlyn Touchette, Brooklyn Sisk and Rebecca Stocker each had a single for Lindenwood.

GAME TWO RECAPThe Warriors snapped a scoreless draw with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Hilton began the frame with a double to left center and was sacrificed to third by Butler. Buchanan's single through the left side plated Hilton with the game's first run. McGarr advanced Buchanan into scoring position with a bunt single and with two outs a throwing error by the Flyer hurler allowed Buchanan to score from second.
IN THE CIRCLEButler (2-0) only faced 25 Lewis hitters retiring seven on strikes with no walks. She allowed three hits and induced 11 groundouts. The Flyers only had one runner reach second base safely (with one out in the third) but back-to-back groundouts ended the inning.
Paige fossey (0-1) went the distance for Lewis. She struck out one and walked one, while allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings of work.
LEADING THE WARRIORSSix different Warriors had hits in the contest with Hilton's two-bagger being the only extra-base hit of the game. Butler reached base twice on a single and a walk.
LEADING THE OPPOSITIONJenna Cairo, Kaylee Prieto and Frankie Castagna each had hits for Lewis.
