PLAINFIELD, Ill. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (16-8 overall) fell in a close, 5-4, match to Rockhurst University on the second day of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover being held at Lewis University on Friday afternoon.
DOUBLES RESULTS- Junior
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) and sophomore
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) defeated Kim Vrugteveen and Justine Berezintsev, 8-1, at the third doubles flights, while the freshman duo of
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) topped Emma Schelble and Tamara Santos, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.
- Seniors
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que.) and
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont.) won in a close, 9-8(3), match over Octavia Malin and Janine Koleta at the second doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS- Ghellere notched the lone point in singles play for the Warriors as she bested Santos in a super tiebreaker, 14-12 (6-4, 4-6), at the fifth singles flight, while Peisachovitz fell in a 10-6 super tiebreaker (4-6, 6-0), to Koleta at No. 2 singles.
- Kuznetsova was defeated by Persson in a super tiebreaker, 10-4 (2-6, 6-2), at the fourth singles position, and junior
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) lost in a super tiebreaker, 10-4 (6-3, 1-6), to Malin at No. 6 singles.
- Kamenko was beat, 6-4, 7-5, by Vrugteveen at the third singles flight, while Poissant was defeated by Schelble, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
UP NEXT- WSU will conclude the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover with a match against Lewis on Saturday at noon in Plainfield, Ill.
