CANTON, OHIO – The 18th-ranked Wayne State University softball squad (25-4 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) recorded a pair of road wins on Saturday at Malone University (10-7 ovreall, 1-2 GLIAC) downing the Pioneers 13-0 in six innings in the opener, and notching a 4-1 triumph in the nightcap.
GAME ONE RECAPJunior
Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) tossed a perfect game in the opener, retiring all 18 Pioneer batters including 12 on strikes. She only threw 68 pitches and did not allow a ball out of the infield. In fact, four of the six Malone groundouts were comebackers.
WSU scored two in the top of the first as senior
Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) delivered a two-run single scoring Butler, who had walked, and senior
Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic), who had singled.
The Warriors added two more runs in the fifth. Senior
Shannon Hilton (Gilford, Ont. / Bradford) had a one-out single and scored WSU's third run on a triple by Butler. After a bunt single by junior
Allie Buchanan (Cambridge, Ont. / Galt C.I.), McGarr's sacrifice fly scored Butler.
Wayne State tacked on nine runs in the top of the sixth. Sophomore
Hailey Lazarek (Allen Park, Mich.) began the scoring spree with a leadoff double. Senior
Ali Lince (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) contributed a two-run single before Hilton's bunt single loaded the bases. Buchanan was plunked plating sophomore
Kylee Barrett (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington). McGarr chipped in with an RBI single, before Lazarek notched her second hit of the frame with a two-run single. Freshman
Hannah McClounie (Essex, Ont. / St. Anne Catholic) followed with a three-run blast.

GAME TWO RECAPWayne State wasted little time in the bottom of the first as Butler had a leadoff double and scored on McGarr's one-out home run to right center.
Malone tallied its lone run of the day in the top of the fifth as Abbie Hughes had a leadoff double, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and score on a single by pinch-hitter Juliana Shultes.
McGarr started the sixth inning with a single, went to second on sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Kristen Lucas (Newmarket, Ont. / Mulock S.S.), and scored on a single by Spano. WSU added an insurance run on a Pioneer miscue.
IN THE CIRCLESenior
Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) started for the Warriors and limited Malone to one run on two hits in 4.2 innings to earn the victory. Butler notched her second save of the campaign by retiring five consecutive batters before a double by Ashley Beck with one out in the seventh. Despite back-to-back errors by the Warriors, Butler was able to keep Malone from getting closer.
Kari Hall (9-6) went the distance in the circle for the Pioneers. She allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with one strikeout.

UP NEXTWayne State will have its home opener on Tuesday as league rival Grand Valley State visits the WSU Softball Stadium. Game one is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
WSU will also be at home next Saturday (April 2nd) against Lake Superior State as the Lakers field is unavailable.
