Softball Blanks Findlay Twice To Run Winning Streak To 16 Games

Butler equals WSU shutout record in game one; drives in all three runs in nightcap.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The 13th-ranked Wayne State University softball squad (35-4 overall, 14-0 GLIAC) extended its winning streak to 16 games with a pair of shutout victories (13-0 in five innings and 3-0) Saturday afternoon at the University of Findlay (26-14 overall, 12-6 GLIAC).

GAME ONE RECAP

The Warriors struck in the top of the first as leadoff batter Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) tripled down the left field line and scored on a throwing error by the Oiler catcher on a failed pickoff attempt.

WSU added a single run in the second as catcher Ali Lince (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) had a two-out single and scored on a double to right center by Hailey Lazarek (Allen Park, Mich.).

Wayne State exploded for six runs in the fourth.  Kylee Barrett (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) had a one-out double and Lince was hit by a pitch.  Lazarek laced a two-run triple to left center scoring Barrett and pinch-runner Jamie MacNeil (Brampton, Ont. / St. Thomas Aquinas S.S.).  Lazarek scored to make 5-0 as Butler reached on an error.  Allie Buchanan (Cambridge, Ont. / Galt C.I.) followed with a single and with two-outs, Kristen Lucas (Newmarket, Ont. / Mulock S.S.) drilled a two-run triple down the right field line.  Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) plated Lucas with a single through the left side.
