SAGINAW, Mich. – The Wayne State University women's tennis team continued its fast start to the season Friday, improving to 5-0 overall and in the GLIAC with a 7-2 win over Saginaw Valley State (4-2 overall, 4-1 GLIAC).
The Warriors lost the first point at No. 1 doubles, but rallied to win four sets in arrow at No. 2 and 3 doubles, as well as fourth, third and sixth singles. A 6-3, 6-0 loss for junior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) at No. 6 to Maya Campbell gave SVSU its second point, but freshman
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Danielle Slonac in the fifth flight.
RESULTS

Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and senior
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) lost their first doubles match of the dual season, falling 8-6 to Shea Donahue and Taylor McLaughlin.
-The Warriors took the next two doubles points, however, as senior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and freshman
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Bateman S.S.) won 8-5 over Danielle Slonac and Maddie Miller, with Liong and freshman
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) claiming an 8-4 victory over Joanne Gao and Campbell.
-Ghellere won at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-3) over McLaughlin, followed by Da-Silva defeating Gao at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2).
-After Ciellza and Liong's matches, Kuznetsova and Mitrache capped off the afternoon. Kuznetsova earned a win over Miller in the second flight (6-3,7-5 (9)), with Mitrache takin a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Donahue.
