Football Edged 23-20 At Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Wayne State University football team (1-6 overall, 0-4 GLIAC) lost its sixth consecutive contest falling 23-20 at Michigan Tech University (3-4 overall, 0-5 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon at Sherman Field.  It was the 900th game in WSU program history that began with a 41-0 win over Assumption (Ont.) College on October 6, 1918.

HOW IT HAPPENED

True freshman Tieler Houston (Waterford, Mich. / Clarkston) intercepted a third-down pass on MTU's first possession at the Warrior 15 yard line to thwart a drive.  The Warriors drove 60 yards with graduate student Paul Graham (Commerce Twp., Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) connecting on a 29-yard field goal attempt to give Wayne State a 3-0 lead.

Following a Huskie punt that was downed at the WSU 6, the Warriors drove 94 yards in 11 plays for their longest touchdown drive of the season.  Junior wide receiver Darece Roberson, Jr. hauled in a 17-yard scoring strike from sophomore quarterback Jake AmRhein (South Elgin, Ill.) on a third-and-nine play.

The Huskies took the second half kickoff and drove 85 yards to knot the game at 10-10 on an 11-yard scramble by quarterback Will Ark.

On the ensuing drive, Taylor McCarty's (Oxford, Mich. / Lake Orion) punt was blocked and returned 11 yards by Kevin Lee for a touchdown giving MTU a 17-10 advantage.

An eight-play, 67-yard drive concluded with a 26-yard field goal by Graham.

Michigan Tech's Zeboor answered on the first play of the fourth period with a 43-yard field goal.

Wayne State evened the contest at 20-20 on a two-yard touchdown run by junior James Hill (Livonia, Mich. / Clarenceville) with 7:27 remaining in the fourth stanza.
