Women's Basketball Falls Short at Detroit Mercy, 58-56

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad fell short 58-56 in its exhibition game at Detroit Mercy on Saturday.

Senior guard Jessica Murphy (Oxford, Mich.) led the Warriors with a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds), along with a team-high five assists.  She scored a three-pointer with 6.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter, knotting the score at 56-56.

Senior Paige Villemure (Flat Rock, Mich.) scored 13 points for the Warriors and had a game-best three steals.  She tied the score at 26-26 with a free throw just before halftime.

Junior Alex Matus (Millbury, Ohio / Toledo Central Catholic) contributed nine points on three triples, while senior Ja'Nae Williams (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Wayne State will begin regular-season play at home on Friday, Nov. 9 with a 7 p.m. tip-off against the University of Findlay.
