Baseball Takes Finale to Win Series

Addison Pawelek allowed two runs over six innings to earn his second win of the season.

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (14-14 overall, 5-7 GLIAC) and Purdue Northwest (10-13 overall, 3-9 GLIAC) met for the fourth time on Sunday and the Warriors won their first series of the season by taking the finale, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- WSU opened the scoring with two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning.  Patrick Adams (Detroit, Mich. / De La Salle) jump started the lineup with a leadoff single and stole  both second and third base before JT Conti (Trenton, Mich.) singled home the game's first run.  Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day) extended the visitors' lead to 2-0 with an RBI single to right field.

- Brad Baldwin (Troy, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic) started the third inning with a triple to center field and Conti doubled down the right field line to give the Green & Gold a 3-0 advantage.  Starter Addison Pawelek (Shelby Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) (2-2) held the Pride hitless until the fourth inning when PNW scored a run on three singles.  Three more hits in the sixth netted the home team another run, trimming WSU's lead to 3-2.

- Taylor Horn (Leo, Ind.) entered in the seventh inning and kept PNW scoreless over the next three innings to collect his second save of the season.  The Pride threatened in the ninth with a single plus a WSU error but Horn struck out the next batter and sealed the victory with a fly out to left field.

AT THE PLATE
- Adams posted a 3-for-4 game, while Conti went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

ON THE MOUND
- Pawelek went six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk.  Horn allowed two hits and struck out one over his three innings of work.
