GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Wayne State University men's tennis team (15-12 overall) had its season come to an end Tuesday afternoon after a 5-1 loss to #10-Indianapolis (24-2 overall) at Center Grove High School near the Greyhound campus.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany) and freshman
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) earned an 8-2 win over Andrea Morlet and Renato Lima in the first flight, landing WSU its lone point.
Senior
Harvey Reed (Winchester, England) and sophomore
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) were defeated by Dario Huber and Nils Hoffacker (8-6).
Juniors
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) and
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) fell at No. 2 to Magnus Mueller and Christoph Dreschsler in a tiebreak, 9-8 (5), to give the Greyhounds their second point.
SINGLES RESULTS
Reed lost 6-1, 6-1 to Dreschler in the fifth flight, giving UIndy a 3-1 lead.
The Greyhounds went up 4-1 after Sammons was defeated in the sixth flight by Matej Kostadinov.
UIndy clinched the match at No. 4, as Mertz was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Mueller.
