SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (1-0 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) traveled to Lake Superior State University (0-1 overall, 0-1 GLIAC) and defeated the Lakers, 6-1.
SINGLES RESULTS
Senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) played at one singles and defeated AlexiAnn Drouin in a close match (7-5, 6-4).
Two singles freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) triumphed over Nadege Koua (6-3, 6-2).
At three singles, sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) battled her way through a first-set tiebreaker for a win over Tara Harvey (7-6 (7-3), 6-1).
Sophomore transfer
Tanja Skalda (Prien Am Chiemsee, Germany) defeated Margo Muller in a third set (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) at the fourth flight.
Five singles sophomore
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) won against Allison Grandfield (6-1, 6-4).
At six singles, freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) played a strong match and swept Jenay Andrews in both sets (6-0, 6-0).
DOUBLES RESULTS
Liong and Cazacu partnered up at one doubles but fell short to Harvey and Koua in a tiebreaker (6-7 (1-7)).
The two doubles pair, Kuznetsova and Skalda, lost to Drouin and Muller (1-6).
Van Meer and Jewell defeated Andrews and Grandfield (6-2) at three doubles.

The women's tennis squad will be playing in Houghton, Mich. tomorrow, Sept. 23, against Michigan Tech.
