Football Drops Fourth Straight, 27-13, To Visiting Tiffin

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University football team (1-4 overall) lost its fourth consecutive game, falling 27-13 to visiting Tiffin (5-0 overall) Saturday evening at Tom Adams Field.

The 33rd-ranked Dragons drove 60 yards after the opening kickoff and took a 3-0 lead on a 32-yard field goal by AJ Nickoli.  TU increased its lead to 10-0 on a 78-yard pass play from Nick Watson to Derell Williams, two plays following a Warrior punt.

Tiffin extended its lead to 17-0 early in the second period on Watson's 11-yard touchdown pass to Charles Holland.

On TU's next drive, freshman linebacker Brandon Tuck-Hayden (Akron, Ohio / Buchtel) sacked Watson forcing a fumble, which he also recovered at the Dragon eight.  On fourth down, graduate student Paul Graham (Commerce Twp., Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) connected on a 24-yard field goal to become the third kicker in school history with at least 200 career points.

Holland's second TD reception of the game with 15 seconds remaining before halftime pushed the Dragon lead to 24-3.

WSU pulled within 24-6 on the first drive after intermission as Graham converted a 36-yard field goal attempt.  The big play of the drive was a 27-yard pass play from sophomore Jake AmRhein (South Elgin, Ill.) to junior Darece Roberson, Jr. (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores).

Nickoli made a 20-yard field goal attempt early in the fourth quarter to make it 27-6.

WSU's lone touchdown drive covered 65 yards in 15 plays that took 5:59.  Roberson had a nine-yard reception on fourth-and-nine, freshman Donte McClure (Port Clinton, Ohio) had a six-yard catch on third-and-four, AmRhein had a 12-yard keeper, junior DeOntay Moffett (Muskegon Hts., Mich. / Mona Shores) gained 13 yards and later scored on a one-yard plunge to make it 27-13.

Sophomore Steven Glenn (Lincoln Park, Mich.) recovered the onside kick, but two interceptions in the final five minutes thwarted that drive and the ensuing possession.
