MIDLAND, Mich. -- The first-seeded Wayne State University women's tennis team (10-0 overall, 9-0 GLIAC) swept No. 8-Purdue Northwest (3-9 overall, 2-7 GLIAC), 4-0, in the 2019 GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
JuniorsÂ
Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) and
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) were first off the courts after notching a No. 2 doubles victory over Julia Yanes-Barrera and Olivia Kjaer (6-3).
Junior
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and freshman
Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) secured the WSU doubles point after tallying a 6-2 win against Carolina Yepez and Anna Wachowski at the third flight.
Sophomore
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and junior
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) had an unfinished No. 1 doubles match vs. Lena van Bergen and Patricia Dizon.
SINGLES RESULTS
At No. 1 singles, Cazacu nearly blanked Yepez (6-1, 6-0).
Liong took off at No. 2 singles to win her match vs. van Bergen (6-0, 6-1).
Laynes clinched the Green and Gold win at No. 5 singles against Barrera (6-3, 6-0)
Da-Silva, Radu and sophomore
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) all had unfinished matches.
