CLINTON TWP., Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (4-1 overall) topped Lewis (2-3 overall) at PeachTree Tennis Club on Friday afternoon for its fourth consecutive win. The Warriors came into the match ranked fourth in the Midwest region, while the Flyers were sixth.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) and junior
Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) won 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 doubles. The duo of freshman
Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) and redshirt junior
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 7-5 to secure the important point for Wayne State.
Seniors
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) fell 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Mertz won (6-0, 6-4) at No. 3 singles, while Renaudie (6-1, 6-1) and Rink (7-6 (7-5), 6-4) at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Karcz lost the top flight of singles (6-2, 7-5), while Vane dropped a thriller at No. 2 singles (6-4 (9-11), 6-7 (10-12).
Freshman
David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) lost at No. 6 singles (6-2, 7-5).
