Men's Tennis Wins 4-3 Versus Tiffin

The Warriors claimed the doubles point and three singles points.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (10-3 overall) notched a 4-3 victory over Tiffin (7-7 overall) in Detroit on Sunday.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) were first off the courts after claiming a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Gabriel Belli De Oliveira and Tom Arias.

Seniors Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) notched a 7-5 victory in their close No. 1 doubles match against Nikita Parfenov and Toby Cutting.

At No. 3 doubles, redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman David Solar (Prague, Czech Repulic) fell 7-6(2) in a tiebreaker versus Hugo Chatras and Sorin Navrotchi.

SINGLES RESULTS
Karcz was the first to finish his match, winning his No. 1 singles match vs. Santiago de la Rosa Mora (6-0, 6-2).

Vane was next off the courts, claiming a victory at No. 4 singles against Cutting (6-3, 6-1).

At No. 2 singles, Renaudie secured the final point for the Green and Gold versus Parfenov (6-3, 6-2).

Mertz fell in his close No. 3 singles match after a super tiebreaker vs. Navrotchi (3-6, 7-5, 10-8).

At No. 5 singles, Solar dropped in a super tiebreaker against Arias (6-4, 3-6, 11-9).

Sammons was last off the courts after falling in a first-set tiebreaker and a super tiebreaker following the second set versus Chatras (7-6(3), 5-7, 10-6).

UP NEXT
WSU will host Davenport in its first GLIAC contest of the season on Saturday, March 23, at 10:00 a.m.
