GRIFFITH, Ind. -- The No. 21 Wayne State University women's tennis squad (17-5 overall) upended Valparaiso (2-11 overall), 6-1, on Sunday evening.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and freshman Laura Cazacu (London, England) were first off the courts after winning 6-2 in their No. 2 doubles match against Randi Wind and Isabella Schoolcraft.
Senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) were next off the courts after claiming a 6-4 win over Claire Czerwonka and Dao Sysouvanh.
At No. 3 doubles, senior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and sophomore
Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) won 6-3 versus Meg Modesto and Jordan Kopfer.
SINGLES RESULTS
Freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) was first to finish after nearly sweeping Kopfer at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-1).
Cazacu was next off the courts, winning her No. 2 singles match vs. Modesto (6-1, 6-3).
At No. 3 singles, Liong notched a victory over Schoolcraft after a close second set (6-2, 7-5).
After splitting the first two sets, Kuzetsova edged Czerwonka in a third set at No. 1 singles (5-7, 6-2, 6-2).
At No. 4 singles, Da-Silva fell to Sysouvanh in a third set (7-5, 2-6, 10-5).
Sophomore
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) was last off the courts after winning her No. 5 singles match vs. Wind (7-6(2), 6-3).
UP NEXT
The Green and Gold will travel to Stow, Ohio, on April 6 for a 12:00 p.m. match against Wilmington University.
