GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad concluded play at the 2019 ITA Midwest Regional Championship on Sunday, hosted by Davenport.
A SINGLES RESULTS
Junior
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) notched a victory over Bellarmine's Ava Ratcliff (6-4, 6-3) in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Da-Silva topped UIndy's Maria Solnyshkina (7-6(5), 6-2), but fell in the semifinals on Sunday against 15th-seeded Alina Kislitskaya from UIndy (6-2, 6-0).
Ninth-seeded sophomore
Laura Cazacu (London, England) lost in a close match to seventh-seeded Marina Prediger (7-5, 7-5).
Junior
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) edged Tiffin's Emily Sim (6-3, 6-4) in the second round of consolation matches. Liong advanced to win her consolation quarterfinals match vs. Hillsdale's Katie Bell (7-6(3), 6-4). Liong would have continued to the semifinal A Singles consolation round, however, all consolation matches were cancelled due to rain.
B SINGLES RESULTS
In the round of 16 on Saturday, freshman
Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) notched a victory over Findlay's Eliza Kirov (7-6(2), 6-2). Laynes advanced to win a tight match vs. eighth-seeded Olivia Hanover from Grand Valley State (6-2, 2-6, 10-2), followed by a win by default in the quarterfinals. She earned an automatic win in the semifinals after her opponent withdrew from the match. Laynes fell to second-seeded Anna Valiaeva from UIndy in the finals (6-4, 6-2).
Sophomore
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) retired due to injury from her match versus Findlay's 10th-seeded Laura Brito.
A DOUBLES RESULTS
Cazacu and Liong edged seventh-seeded Yu-Ning Lee and Alma Abazi from Drury, 8-6, in the second round of doubles. The duo fell 9-7 to second-seeded Jill van Den Dungen and Catarina Zheng from Southwest Baptist.
B DOUBLES RESULTS
JuniorsÂ
Tanja Skalda (Prien am Chiemsee, Germany) and
Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) won their second-round match 8-5 vs. UIndy's second-seeded Chloe Weihs and Anna Valiaeva. The pair advanced to notch an 8-4 victory over Drury's Kseniia Eremina and Clara Kuehnle. Skalda and Radu earned an automatic win in the semifinals after their opponents withdrew from the match, however, they were upended 8-2 by first-seeded Maja Pindelska and Lizaveta Demchenko from UIndy.

Wayne State will host Lake Superior State on Saturday (10:00 a.m.) and Michigan Tech on Sunday (10:00 a.m.).
