Women's Tennis Improves to 14-0 With 7-0 Win Over Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (14-0 overall), ranked No. 21 nationally in the latest ITA rankings, swept Lawrence Tech (7-3 overall) 7-0 at the Franklin Racquet Club on Thursday afternoon.

DOUBLES RESULTS

Junior Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) and sophomore Laura Cazacu (London, England) earned a 6-0 victory at first doubles.

Junior Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and sophomore Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) were 6-1 winners at No. 3 doubles.

At second doubles, junior Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and freshman Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) were 6-1 victors.

SINGLES RESULTS

Cazacu notched a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles, while junior Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Radu posted a 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory at No. 3 singles to secure the match victory.

Liong prevailed 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 in a third set super tiebreaker at second singles.

Jewell bested her opponent 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, while Laynes delivered a 6-3, 7-6 (4) triumph at fourth singles.

UP NEXT

Wayne State will host the University of Northwestern Ohio tomorrow (Feb. 28th) at the Doris J. and Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility.  The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
