Men's Tennis Falls 4-1 at Rollins

The Warriors will face Lee on Monday at 11:15 a.m.

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-3 overall) was upended 4-1 at Rollins (2-5 overall) on Saturday.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) and freshman Dom Spicer (London, England) dropped their No. 1 doubles match 6-2 to Luke Horan and Andrea Brignacca.

At No. 3 doubles, senior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) and sophomore Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) fell 6-2 to Mikkel Baumann and Freddy Danielson.

Junior Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and freshman Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) had a 5-2 advantage vs. Gai Feigin and Atakan Gezer at No. 2 doubles.  Their match went unfinished due to Rollins clinching the doubles point.

"We had a lot of good opportunities and a lot of looks, but just didn't execute," stated head coach Bryan Morrow.  "I think we played a little nervous.  We are a young team and I feel like we are getting better, but we still aren't there as far as knowing how to handle the biggest moments."

SINGLES RESULTS
Renaudie was the lone Warrior to notch a victory, winning 6-4, 6-4 against Feigin at No. 1 singles.

"Pierre played a great match at No. 1 singles," remarked Morrow.  "It was definitely the highlight of the day.  He played pretty flawless in the first and second set.  His opponent made a little bit of a comeback in the second set, but Pierre broke him at 5-4 to close out the match.  He played really well."

Rink was next off the courts after losing his No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-4 to Brignacca.

"Max played a hard-fought match," said Morrow.  "He battled back and had some looks to break but unfortunately just didn't come through."

At No. 6 singles, Solar was edged 7-5, 6-4 by Leonardo Cordero-Mellado.

"David lost two hard-fought sets," Morrow stated.  "He was down in the second set and the momentum switched his way.  He got a break back but unfortunately, serving at 4-5 in the last game, he just could not pull it out to keep the match going."

Karcz dropped his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 in a third set versus Gezer.

"Niklas pulled out a great second set," recalled Morrow.  "Unfortunately with the energy that he gave in that effort to win the second set, he just didn't have anything left to win the third."

Spicer and Laws both had unfinished matches when Rollins claimed the victory.  Spicer was tied 1-1 in a third set at No. 4 singles, and Laws was leading 3-2 in a third set at No. 5 singles.

"Dom was playing really well," commented Morrow.  "It was good experience.  I was really proud of both him and Luke stepping up, winning sets, and dealing with the adversity, the conditions and the crowd."

FROM COACH MORROW
"We lost a heartbreaker today.  We played a very spunky, energized Rollins team and it was a hard match to lose.  Hopefully the guys rebound well for us on Tuesday."
